Library Services and Guidelines

The library provides students and staff with a wide range of information resources to compliment the school's curriculum. Computers give access to the Internet as well as to our subscription databases which allow access to thousands of magazine, newspaper, and encyclopedia articles. The book collection continues to be updated and contains over 12,000 volumes of fiction and non-fiction titles for reading and research. More than 10 print subscriptions to magazines and newspapers are available.

Staff:

  • Mrs. Rahn is the library teacher. She spends 2 days per week at Sycamore. The other days she takes care of Anaheim High library.

  • Mrs. Bristow is the library technician. She is at Sycamore every day.

  • Student helpers are also present most of the day. Our students are very important to the running of the library. We love them!

  • Both Mrs. Rahn and Mrs. Bristow are here to help you find the books and resources you need to be successful in school. We and our students will help you in any way we can.

Computers:

  • The library has 5 computers open for student use.

  • All include Microsoft Office, Excel, and Power Point, access to World Book Encyclopedia, EBSCO Databases with news and biographies, Country Reports, Brain Pop, and our Library Catalog.

  • Students who need to do school work have first priority on the computers.

  • Students may not print pictures without a note from their teacher.

Important:

If you save on a disk or attach to your email at home, always save your document as a .txt file. This way is will always open at school. We do not have Microsoft WORKS, which many home computers come with. Microsoft WORKS and Microsoft WORD do not like each other. When you save, use the drop down File Type menu at the bottom of the SAVE box, and change the type to .txt. You'll be glad you did!

We encourage you to invest in a Flash drive, a much more reliable way to save your documents than a floppy drive. Save using the same techniques above. Always STOP the drive before removing it. Check the lower right task bar.

Computer Rules

  • You may browse the Internet, type, use our databases, check your email, do research.

  • You may not play games, use chat, watch videos, or use headphones.

  • No more than 2 people may be at a computer at one time.

Printing

  • Always check File and Print Preview before printing

  • Then print only the pages you need.

  • Print once and go to the check-out desk to pick up your copies.

  • We only have Black and White printing.

  • You may print one copy of your school work for free.
